Sometimes we take things for granted, like the ability to see, which helps do simple tasks like to drive or read a book. For children with vision problems, simply learning can be difficult. And for children in underserved communities, children without adequate medical insurance to cover vision care, or children living in poverty, vision problems can be especially daunting and can negatively affect performance in school. But members of our community, the Eye Institute of Salus University, and Conicelli Toyota of Springfield are proud to help through the Looking Out for Kids initiative.
According to Looking Out for Kids, vision problems affect one in four children, negatively impacting performance at school. Proper vision care and early detection of vision problems or eye diseases, however, can help improve children's lives academically and socially.
The Eye Institute of Salus University was founded in 1978 and since then has focused on offering vision and eye care services for children, especially underinsured or uninsured children. In 2007, the Eye Institute of Salus University began the Looking Out for Kids initiative to help raise funds to provide quality vision care for disadvantaged children and children in underserved communities in and around Springfield. Looking Out for Kids helps children get the vision care and eyeglasses they need.
Taking care of our eyesight is something we often neglect; we need our vision to drive and we need it to read, but it's something we often take for granted. Thanks to the Eye Institute of Salus University's Looking Out for Kids initiative and our friends and neighbors in and around the Springfield area, proper vision care is available for those children who cannot take their eyesight for granted.
